Latest Updates from Our Project:

Now with Kickstarter Exclusive Bonus Content, incl. secret cryptid!
over 6 years ago – Sun, Oct 15, 2017 at 12:26:09 PM

If you've been monitoring this project, now is the time to back, and to share with your friends. We've just added new cards to the game, including a never-before-seen North American cryptid. You'll be the first to see it, and Kickstarter backers will be only ones to add these cards to their games!

1. Magical Wellness -- it's better than mundane school PE! This is a Course card that gives end-of-game bonuses if you enroll and finish it!

2. Merfolk Weaving Arts -- it's not a gut course! This takes serious magic! (added as soon as goal of $32,500 is reached)

3. Help from ... House Founders. You'll get a card for each of the five New World Magischola Houses, with the gorgeous portrait art of Virginia Dare, Marie Laveau, Calisaylá, Étienne Brûlé, and Tituba, drawn by Lars Bundvad.

4. PLUS we will unveil a new CRYPTID -- you'll be the first to see them, and the only ones to get to add it to your deck!

We're down to measuring the campaign in hours, and we are within striking distance of funding. Let's do this and bring the magical mayhem to homes everywhere!

Mobilizio and Shareio -- two needed spells to get House Rivalry over the goal!
over 6 years ago – Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 12:29:42 PM

Hey magical backers!

We are so glad to have your support, and we are so very very close to getting this campaign funded with about 3 days remaining. Signs are pretty good, but we need your help. If you, backers, mobilize and share the campaign, I know we can banish the Kickstarter goal back to its lair.

Help us find more people to back the campaign! Tell others how excited you are about the game! Here are some things you can do:

  • Make a post to your Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google+ or other social media. A quick video of you saying how much you want this to fund, a link to the campaign with a personal endorsement. Let people know this is important and that their support makes a difference.
  • Post in social media groups that you are a part of that have people who would be interested in the game. Board gaming groups, tabletop groups, Harry Potter fandoms, fantasy fandoms, casual gamers, family-friendly fun activity sites, etc.
  • Share our posts on social media. We're at @snowdragongames and @nwmagischola on Twitter, and New World Magischola and NWM House Rivalry on Facebook and newworldmagischola on Instagram.
  • Text or DM folks on your contact lists. A personal message goes a long way.
  • Email is a reliable way of contacting people unless they are under 30 ;)
  • Tell your friends about it. Word of mouth is still a thing!

Here's something new and special you can tell them: every backer at the $49 level or higher will now get an exclusive Course Card, Magical Wellness. It's a bonus card that will help you at the end of the game as long as you finish it.

AND, we'll add the Merfolk Weaving Arts Card to the game as soon as we hit the $32,500 goal:

That'll be two Kickstarter exclusive cards that you'll get as backers of the campaign.

Thanks for your support so far. I know you want to see the game happen, and we do, too!

Twist Gaming Playthrough, Review, and Strategy Discussion
over 6 years ago – Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 11:43:03 AM

Matt and Ann from Twist Gaming sat down to play House Rivalry, while our developer, Mike, looked on and gave hints about rules and strategies. See which wizard came out on top by watching this playthrough (and get some hints for your own gameplay!)

After the playthrough, Ann and Matt review the mechanics and components here:

Play strategy for House Rivalry: Variable Player Powers, House
over 6 years ago – Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 11:36:19 AM

House Rivalry uses Variable Player Powers in two ways:

  • You choose your character. Each character has a unique ability that you can use to help you win the game (we'll discuss characters in the next update!).
  • You choose your NWM House. Each House has a positive ability and a setback that you use to strategize your way to winning.

Any character can be in any house, and you'll find ways to maximize your strategies by combining certain characters with specific Houses.

The Houses have personalities, based on the characteristics of the folks who are usually in that House, and the House Founder. These personalities create the skills and setbacks and affect how you play. Here's a rundown on the Houses:

5 NWM Houses & their Skills/Setbacks
5 NWM Houses & their Skills/Setbacks

Dylan likes to play Casa Calisaylá and enroll in as few courses as possible, but ALLLL the clubs. Calisayláns get a House Points bonus for every club they complete, so this helps leap ahead.

Ben likes to play Laveau and go for the Dark courses. Laveaux do well dancing in the dark.

Maury likes to play Obeah, and minimize the effect of hexes played on her, so that she can concentrate on her own game and worry less about her rivals.

Learn more about the NWM Houses, or take the House Sorting Quiz to see where you affiliate. Of course, you don't have to play in the House that you sort into, but that sometimes drives people's choices, even beyond gameplay strategy.

The combination of Variable Player Powers with the Houses and the Characters makes for a lot of replayability and a different experience each time through the game!

Which House do you think has the most powerful ability, and which one would you play?

We're getting great reviews!

On the fence about backing our project? Already excited to get your own copy? The press is giving us some positive feedback! Read what Geek-O-Rama and Father Geek have to say about our board game.

Our favorite quote from the article:

"If you are a fan of “other” wizarding school things, much of this game will feel like a natural extension of that world. If you are a LARP fan, and maybe already know about New World Magischola, this will give you more time in the Magimundi. Lastly, if you are just an average tabletop gamer, you’ll enjoy the unique gameplay and overall thematic feel of House Rivalry. So no matter who you are, it’s a win."

We're so glad they think so! :D We hope you will agree.

We have been Father Geek approved! This means that when it was play tested by a Child Geek, Parent Geek, and a Gamer Geek--all three recommended it for people to play. This is great news if you're looking to get the entire family involved...or maybe looking for a special gift for a young kid in your life.

Anyway, thanks again, everyone! We appreciate your contributions and your support. We're especially excited that we've managed to reach two social media stretch goals. Did you miss the video with Tiny Dean? ;)
